Fish with Oi Yee Tai – December 2025

Oi Yee Tai began her workshop by explaining that mastering the brush strokes for a fish often begins by learning the brush strokes in calligraphy.

In Chinese characters the word fish began almost with a picture of a fish in the oldest form of the word.

Chinese characters for fish evolved through time

As time advanced, a more abstract word replaced it which became the cursive word used by artists writing in Chinese.
