Classes
Sumi-e classes at all levels are held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Each week students work on a painting under the guidance of a skilled instructor. Subjects include flowers, trees, birds, insects, people and landscapes.
Cost: $135 +HST for 8 classes
Contact the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) for information or to enroll.
Additional instructors of sumi-e can be found in Resources.
Seals
A student submits a painting called a test piece after completing classes. This painting results in the award of a seal. A seal is a unique saying in Japanese that identifies an artist and is imprinted on a completed work of art.
A student who receives a seal is given a free one year membership to the Sumi-e Artists of Canada.
